Featuring some interesting examples of parkour stunts set in Sixth Century Persia, along with impressive sword fights and awe-inspiring effects drawn from the popular Ubisoft video game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a relatively enjoyable popcorn summer actioner, offering very little more than what it advertises: a mysterious adventure set in a time of might and magic.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Plot Summary

When the King Sharaman of Persia (Ronald Pickup) asks his three sons (two his own, the youngest adopted) to attack a fabled city rumored to be fabricating weapons for their enemies (according to the King's brother Nizam (Sir Ben Kingsley, Shutter Island), the sons have no real cause to doubt this military intelligence, and set off to invade the enemy.

Adopted Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal, Brothers) disregards his older brother Tus's (Richard Coyle) orders to storm the front gates, instead using his remarkable street skills to climb the city's East Wall alongside his trusted men. He comes across the city's guardian, a princess named Tamina (Gemma Arterton, Clash of the Titans) whose sole duty is to protect a magical artifact, a seemingly normal yet ornate dagger whose hilt is filled with bright sand but is capable of moving its wielder back through time (roughly a minute, to be exact), allowing some changes to be made based on foreknowledge gained during this time.
