There are a number of elements that should be included in any promotional or event plan.
Objective/Goal of the Promo
This means what needs to be achieved, how was it going to be measured it and what is the indicator of success/failure. This is important. Too many promos or events have been organised just because someone thought ‘it might bring people in.’ It’s important to have a specific goal (and this needs to fit in with an overall management plan)
For example: Say what the overall management plan is to make an extra $50k profit. Great. But how will that be achieved? Break it down so it becomes manageable. Like this: First get people’s attention, second get them into the club, third – get them to become members so they are on the club's database and the club can communicate with them and fourth – get them to spend money. So now there are four separate promotions orevents with four separate goals. Each one will be run differently depending on the expected outcome.
Target Market
Never say – “We just want everyone”. First of all – it’s pretty certain not everyone will respond and second of all – a campaign will get lost if it’s trying to talk to everyone and therefore talking to no one. Figure out exactly who is expected to attend the promotion or event. Name her, give her hobbies and a lifestyle. This will make it easier to plan the perfect promo.
