When The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan first came out, I was very curious about it, because I expected a lot from the director of Pan's Labyrinth and Blade II. However, this book turned to be a cliché after a cliché, neither a good nor a fun read. The sequel, The Fall, wasn't any better, and I don't expect much from the third book, The Night Eternal, once it comes out.

The Strain – Story

The Strain is the first novel in a vampire trilogy. It starts with a plane landing at JFK International Airport, with all the passengers seemingly dead. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather investigates what killed the passengers, thinking at first it must have been some virus. He soon meets an old pawnbroker, Abraham Setrakian, who, like another Abraham (Van Helsing), tells him the vampire did it: Jusef Sardu, The Master, who came to the United States in order to make a lot of new vampires and take over the world.
